Fernie has a legend—the legend of the Griz. He is the bringer of snow. In his honor and to celebrate the snow Fernie holds a festival every spring. The Mogul Smoker is a huge party thrown every year in his honor, outside on the night of the full moon at a secret location. Dancing around a fire for snow and worshipping a legend, people in this town will do anything to respect the snow gods and encourage a good snow year ahead.

Although owned by RCR and growing more corporate with every passing year. It still has the charm and intimacy like no other mountain town. Once you hit the trees your chances of seeing someone else is possible, but you will probably know them!

The terrain is smaller than some mountains located in the Rockies but there are lots of spots to hike and always a stash of freshies to be found. Fernie is known for its legendary powder and steep terrain, that will keep you coming back for more.

How did I end up there?
Commonalities of the people. Everyone is there with reason. They get you back to the basics. Have a good time and enjoy the winter because it is a season you can learn to regret and loathe when growing up in the prairies.
