Welcome to the New Anchorless Street Zine!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NXNE. Toronto June 2009

Anchorless Media drove 24 hrs straight to make it to NXNE in Toronto city to cause trouble in the streets and check out some alright bands too.

My picks: Japanther, Matt & Kim, Black Lips, These are Powers, Deep Dark Woods, & Boxer the Horse.

japanther

Japanther:
• Mind blowing
• floor bouncing
• sweaty
• screaming
• head banging

I would marry Japanther the band if I could, carry them and their little megaphones in my pocket. Walking into this show only hearing whispers of hype not knowing one word to any Japanther lyrics...the only lyrics you need to sing along to is “WE DONT GIVE A FUCK!”. I left screaming and sweaty. Japanther has it.

A full on dance party plus a punk rock mosh pit equals a bouncing chaotic dance floor you don’t wanna miss! Japanther is electric. The pre-mixed tracks played over guitar riffs and pre-recorded skits make for an interesting show. It seemed me and everyone around me couldn’t get enough. No one was standing still and no one gave a fuck!

Japanther is a quintessential group to check out if you like to dance and scream and throw your fists up!

Janine Strickland and Nic Thorne

Janine Strickland, Owner, One Life Surf School. Nic Thorne, Art Director/Designer. Leviathan. Spotted enjoying Matt & Kim and Japanther at Wrong Bar.

These are Powers:
It’s a mix between a super cyber electro aerobics video complete with unitards and a weird robotic foreplay act between frontwoman Anna Barie and bass guitarist Pat Noecker. Either way the group is HOT!

Saucy and Experimental would be a way to describe the sounds of These Are Powers. Colorful pantyhose decorate the stage and microphones as the band jumps around and entrances the crowd. The show started with a few raised eyebrows in the back of a packed Sneaky Dees and ended with a lot of toe tappin and finger snappin. The critics approved and the fans were blown away, seeing These Are Powers live is an experience you would truly regret missing.
